About the Book:

Asher’s fall created a vacuum of power that the vampires were desperate to fill. I didn’t think it was possible, but the one taking up his mantle might be worse than Asher himself. She certainly was more ambitious. From the moment Maya stepped into his shoes, she played fast and loose with the rules. It was up to us, the Horsemen, to control her or else risk the vampire council rain Hell down on our city. But when supernatural creatures start dropping like flies around me, all signs point to my gift being used to end them. I realized that the chaos was just beginning. Turning to an unlikely ally when the world seems against me may be my salvation, or possibly the beginning of my end.
Only time will tell.

My Review:

Obsidian is the second book in D.C. Gambel’s amazing and unique tale about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The team consists of three men and one woman and they are all fantastic characters. Evie is getting more comfortable in her role as Death. She has also fallen into a relationship with Cam, the Horseman of War. Since taking down the vampire, Asher, in book 1, other vampires are vying to fill his spot. Maya has stepped into the vacated spot of control, but she is much more menacing and manipulative than Asher ever thought of being. Now it’s up to the Horsemen to contain Maya before the vampire council lashes out.

The vampire council is only one problem. Evie, as the Horseman of Death, has a specific “gift” of touch causing immediate death. She is the only one in the world with this gift. When supernaturals begin dying with the same MO as Evie’s gift, she must figure out how to prove it is not her. Evie is also approached by a mystery man who seems to know everything about her. He delivers revelations to Evie that the other Horsemen have deliberately kept hidden from her.

The Horsemen Chronicles is a fresh book series surrounding the Four Horsemen (actually, 3 Horsemen and one Horsewoman) of the Apocalypse. I enjoyed the continued character development. I love the author’s writing style and the wonderful job she does in putting emotion into her characters that can be felt by the reader. Evie and Cam have additional issues in Obsidian. The roadblocks that they encountered in Awakened did not end upon the conclusion of the book. Plus, Obsidian brings a fresh new set of troubles. The excellent world building continues, the descriptions were vivid, and I felt like I was there in the story. I can't wait for the next book!

I purchased my copy from Amazon.
