Paranormal Romance Review ~ The Viking Wolf (Wolves of Valhalla #1) by J.R. Rain and H.P. Mallory #PNR @HPMallory

About the Book:

For as long as I can remember, I’ve known things I have no way of knowing—it’s almost like getting little whispers from the future, little hints about what’s going to happen...

When I receive an email from an unknown sender about a little town called Marshall Heights, I can’t seem to shake the feeling that I’m meant to move there.

Fast forward a few weeks and I find myself starting over in this postage-sized town. And when I happen to see him loading groceries into an old truck, I’m shocked speechless.

I’ve been in love with Torsten Black ever since he left me with no explanation eight years ago. Not a day has gone by that I haven’t thought of him. So, to see him here, now, in this Podunk town… it has to be fate.

But, Torsten isn’t as happily surprised to see me. Instead, he appears to be haunted by his past—a past full of secrets and lies. Torsten insists he’s not the same man he used to be.

He also insists that I’m not safe in Marshall Heights—something which becomes abundantly clear when Torsten’s brother, Skarde, a full-blown Viking warrior come from another realm, suddenly shows up in my apartment and tries to murder me.

Realizing I’m not the witch he thinks I am, Skarde releases me and then demands I join his cause—a cause I know and want nothing to do with.

Even if Skarde is just as gorgeous as his brother, he’s a loose cannon. Whereas Torsten is dark and brooding, Skarde is cocky and demanding. The two can’t stand each other and, at this point, I’m starting to agree with them both.

Regardless, now I’m not only involved in something I don’t understand, I’m in over my head.

In over my head = Viking wolf shifters, jealous and vengeful goddesses, and the start of the first of three winters which will doom mankind.

Learning I possess the blood of the Valkyrie (from Odin) as well as the blood of the witches (from Freya), I’m straddling the line between both pantheons of gods.

Stuck in the eye of the storm, I have no idea how to get out…

My Review:

Jovi Billings has been getting premonitions ever since she can remember. When she receives her one and only job offer, after applying to several in various locations, she knows Marshall Heights is where she needs to be. If only she knew why. After she settles in and begins her new job, she happens upon the one and only man she wants. Torsten Black, the man she fell in love with, and the man her up and left her in Las Vegas appears, much to Jovi’s surprise.

Torsten is not exactly happy to see Jovi in the small town of Marshall Heights. He fled to keep her safe. There are things about him Jovi would never understand. Things that should send her running the opposite direction. Things that she would never believe, even if he wanted to tell her.

Except, Jovi’s being in Marshall Heights isn’t just about Torsten. There are things about Jovi that will soon be revealed as she navigates her new town. Events quickly take a turn when Torsten’s brother, Skarde, appears in her apartment out of nowhere and threatens her life.

Jovi is a unique character with a passion for Torsten that made their chemistry believable and rooted for them throughout the book. Jovi learns a lot about herself, Torsten, and Norse mythology. Her character is complex, and I enjoyed getting to know her. Torsten has so many secrets but he soon discovers keeping them from Jovi was not in either their best interest.

The complexity of the characters, intertwined destinies, and masterful plot kept me engaged in The Viking Wolf. The book is full of twists, turns, and gasp-out-loud moments. I enjoyed learning about Jovi, Torsten, Skarde, and the Norse gods and goddesses. I look forward to the next book in the series.

This book ends on a cliffhanger.

Paranormal Romance Book #Review ~ The Gravedigger’s Son (Charley Davidson #13.6) by Darynda Jones @Darynda @jennw23

The Gravedigger’s Son, an all new 1,001 Dark Nights novella in the Charley Davidson series from New York Times bestselling author Darynda Jones, is available now!

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Darynda Jones comes a new story in her Charley Davidson series…

About the Book:

The job should have been easy.

Get in. Assess the situation. Get out. But for veteran tracker Quentin Rutherford, things get sticky when the girl he’s loved since puberty shows up, conducting her own investigation into the strange occurrences of the small, New Mexico town. He knew it would be a risk coming back to the area, but he had no idea Amber Kowalski had become a bona fide PI, investigating things that go bump in the night. He shouldn’t be surprised, however. She can see through the dead as clearly as he can. The real question is, can she see through him?

But is anything that’s worth it ever easy?

To say that Amber is shocked to see her childhood crush would be the understatement of her fragile second life. One look at him tells her everything she needs to know. He’s changed. So drastically she barely recognizes him. He is savage now, a hardened—in all the right places—demon hunter, and she is simply the awkward, lovestruck girl he left behind.

But she doesn’t have time to dwell on the past. A supernatural entity has set up shop, and it’s up to them to stop it before it kills again.

While thousands of questions burn inside her, she has to put her concern over him, over what he’s become, aside for now. Because he’s about to learn one, undeniable fact: she’s changed, too.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

My Review:

I love being back in the world of Charley Davidson. The Gravedigger's Son features Cookie's daughter, Amber, and her childhood crush, Quentin. Apart for many years, both end up chasing the same demon who's been terrorizing and killing indiscriminately...or so they think. Now, Amber and Quentin must join forces to figure out why the demon is in Madrid, New Mexico and stop it before anymore deaths occur.

The reunion between Amber and Quentin was sweet and clearly long overdue. I mourned for their lost relationship as I read about Quentin's life and how their separation affected Amber. Five years is a lot of time to lose with someone you love.

The Gravedigger's Son is a wonderful addition to the world of Charley Davidson. I enjoyed the tension, action, suspense, and rekindling of a romance. Learning about what happened to Quentin and what he's currently dealing with brought another level to the story. The book is fun, fast-paced, and engaging. We get to revisit old friends and it feels like we never left.

I was provided a copy of this book to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
