About the Book:

Tilly Farriday isn’t feeling very jolly this season. Recently divorced and broke, she’s squatting in one of her rental agency’s properties until her new home is ready. The sprinkles on top of the burnt Christmas cookie that is her life? The new owner shows up early, forcing Tilly to hide in the attic to save her job…and what remains of her dignity.

George Holloway is here to sell his granduncle’s house—and to reconsider whether he and his fiancée are right for each other. Amid home repairs, George notices strange noises and missing food, but as much as he gets his rental agent on the phone, Tilly dodges every invitation to meet. He’s sure that someone’s here with him, and it’s certainly not the Ghost of Christmas Past, Present, or Future.

As Tilly and George circle each other, they both wonder where their lives are headed and if, maybe, meeting each other is just the Christmas miracle they need.

My  Review:

Holiday Hideaway is a cute novella with a winter/Christmas setting. The premise is interesting but almost not believable. A woman loses everything to her ex-husband in court and in order to survive until her new apartment is ready, she jeopardizes her job by staying in one of the rental properties her company manages. The home has been empty for at least a year so Tilly "moves" in temporarily until said homeowner shows up unannounced. Tilly scampers to the attic in hopes that whomever it is will leave so she can go about her squatting life. Except, he doesn't and Tilly finds herself in quite the predicament.

Fortunately, while story seems a bit farfetched, I understand that this is a work of fiction. I was able to quickly suspend my disbelief and enjoy the story for what it's for and about. Tilly is a great character. She's spontaneous, impulsive, and doesn't think about consequences, otherwise she wouldn't be living in an empty home she doesn't own that just happens to be managed by her place of employment. George  is a great character too. He's there to get the property ready for sale but deep down, his escape from Boston is for a different reason. He just needs a old high school friend who is caring and considerate to pop back into his life in order for him to see a path to a better future than the road he's on currently.

I enjoyed this short holiday read with a light mix of romance. It was a very quick read. The book has some humor and snark, conflict and unhappiness, but is also lighthearted, with a childhood friends/acquaintances to lovers romance woven in between the pages. I like the author's writing style, the quick world-building for both Tilly and George, and the character development.

While I'm familiar with this author, Holiday Hideaway is the first book of hers that I've read. I'll be grabbing some of her other work in-between other commitments.

#BookReview ~ Rush at 50 by Daniel Bukszpan ~ @rushtheband #Tribute #ClassicRockBand #ClassicRock

A beautifully produced, photo-packed celebration of the beloved rock trio, Rush at 50 examines the history of the Canadian rockers through the lens of 50 milestone events and an illustrated gatefold timeline.

Formed in Toronto in 1968, Rush became one of the most popular and best-selling bands in rock history, thanks to their tireless effort and imaginative, ever-evolving music. This richly illustrated and entertainingly written book from Rush expert and music journalist Dan Bukszpan pays tribute to the trio on the 50th anniversary of their debut album by curating and examining 50 of the most significant milestones in their career.

Bukszpan covers everything down through the decades:

The band’s formation by bassist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson in suburban Toronto and their early gigs and tours opening for the likes of Kiss
Their breakthrough in the United States thanks to a Cleveland DJ
The role of co-founding drummer John Rutsey
Rush’s early Led Zeppelin–influenced efforts and their breakthrough, 2112
The band’s ever-evolving musical style through the 1970s and 1980s
The controversial influence of novelist Ayn Rand on Neil Peart’s lyrics
Geddy Lee’s instantly recognizable vocal style
Recording sessions with various producers in Wales, Quebec, and elsewhere

In examining 50 touchstones, Buszpan presents a unique look at Rush’s career arc from Toronto bar band to international mega-platinum stadium fillers. Every page is illustrated with stunning concert and candid offstage photography, including gig posters, ticket stubs, and more.

The result is an epic tribute to one of the most influential and admired bands in rock history—in a milestone year.

192 pages, Hardcover

Published October 8, 2024

My Review:

Rush has always been a favorite classic band of mine. As a GenXr, I grew up with parents who listened to Rush, and other bands now labeled as classic rock. Tom Sawyer has, and will always be, my favorite Rush song. As an avid concert goer with my husband, Rush has been on my bucket list of must-see live bands. Unfortunately, seeing them never happened and now, never will.

Rush at 50 by Daniel Bukszpan is a wonderful compilation and historical record of the milestones in the career of the band. I loved the photos, the interviews, and background on one the most iconic rock bands of the classic rock era. Perfect for the Rush lover in your life.

Thanks NetGalley.

#BookReview ~ Living The Dream at Puddleduck Farm by Della Galton ~ #Romance

Living The Dream at Puddleduck Farm

About the Book:

Life would be idyllic if everyone else was on the same page…

Puddleduck Vets Practice is busier than ever.

Phoebe Dashwood is juggling the usual crazy animal antics of her quirky clients, whilst organising the wedding of her bridezilla grandmother and thankfully dating her perfect man.

Phoebe loves every minute of being a New Forest vet, even if she hardly has time to catch her breath. If only she could find some quality time for her and the man of her dreams, life would be perfect.

When an ex’s heartbreak stirs up some emotions from the past, Phoebe realises she must deal with some unfinished business. It would seem a miracle is needed to pull off a happy ending for everyone – but is it within Phoebe's power to work miracles?

My Review:

Living the Dream at Puddleduck Farm is the fourth book in the Puddleduck Farm series. Phoebe and Sam are happy, but life is not without challenges. They both are so busy that finding enough time to spend together is tough. Phoebe's grandmother is also getting married, adding another thing to her plate. Sam also has some family issues to take care of that cause a little bit of friction. On top of that, Rufus re-enters the picture and her past walks right back into her present.

Living the Dream at Puddleduck Farm is another great book in a wonderful series by Della Galton. The author did a great job creating this world, setting it up, and developing the characters. I had fun reading about strong grandmas, supportive parents, and silly animals. There are realistically written stressful situations and hard decisions, but also ones filled with love, support, and fun. I loved being back on Puddleduck Farm.

#BookReview ~ Christmas at Holly Tree Cottage by Eliza J. Scott ~ #SecondChance #Christmas #Romance

Christmas at Holly Tree Cottage
(Life on the Moors series)

About the Book:

It’s Christmas time in Lytell Stangdale!

When Romy Stainthorpe sees Holly Tree Cottage staring back at her from the pages of a magazine, she’s sure it’s a sign. The quaint property is situated in Lytell Stangdale, a village in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors. Her time there is steeped in happy memories of carefree days with the moorland wind blowing through her hair. And not just that, it’s where she had her first kiss and where she first fell in love.

It was her perfect place, where she felt most at home. Until her family’s hasty departure years twenty-one years earlier. Since that day, Romy has never been back, but the cottage has regularly crept into her thoughts. And now it’s available to rent for the festive season…

Could it be the perfect getaway Romy needs to get her life back on track, not to mention escape her friends’ well-meaning attempts at matchmaking since her divorce from Russ?

Local farmer, Finn Tindall is struggling to navigate the first Christmas since his ex-wife took herself and their sons to live in the US. He’s thrown himself into his work at Castlegate Farm and rarely ventures out, unable to face the pitying glances thrown his way. His only company is his loyal black Labrador Ted.

Convinced that fate is talking to her, Romy heads back to a snowy LytellStangdale. Once there, she’s thrilled to see the village is looking Christmas card-pretty and has embraced the festive period. The only place where there’s no Christmas cheer is Finn’s heart.

It doesn’t take long before Romy and Finn’s paths cross, setting long-hidden emotions stirring once more. Suddenly Christmas doesn’t seem so gloomy after all.

Could this be the exciting fresh start each of them deserves?

Will Finn and Romy decide their second chance at love is worth fighting for? Or will the obstacles put in their way make them think it’s time to say goodbye?

Why not take a trip to festive Lytell Stangdale where a warm welcome awaits and happy-ever-afters are guaranteed?

My Review:

Christmas at Holly Tree Cottage is the ninth book in the Life on the Moors series. I haven't had the opportunity to read any of the previous books. I can say that this is very easily a stand alone. I'm sure there are characters from the previous books but I don't know who or what their stories are...yet.

Romy returns to Lytell Stangdale some twenty plus years after abruptly leaving with her family. While not having been back since they left, Lytell Stangdale and her childhood home, Holly Tree Cottage, has never been far from her mind. She quickly jumps at the opportunity to go home when the cottage becomes available to rent.

Finn is still reeling from his divorce and his ex moving to the US with his kids. He's trying to keep it together by staying busy but struggling. Having Romy pop back into town has been a blessing he didn't realize he needed.

Their meeting was inevitable - Romy just didn't realize it would be so soon, and Finn never expected it to happen. I love how the author brought them back together. A surprise meeting that brought all of their past feelings back to the present. Speaking of, the author did a fantastic job blending the present with the past. I loved meeting Romy, Finn, and all the other characters. Finn's ex-wife is a piece of work and I could go on for days about the child custody system, but no one reading this review cares about my thoughts.

Set in a charming village, the author built a beautiful world, created wonderful characters with depth and emotion, and told a heartwarming story of second chance love. I loved everything about this book. I can't wait to go back and start this series from the beginning.

Princess Sophie and the Christmas Elixir is the story of a young girl who loves Christmas. When she sees that the people of Melodica are losing their Christmas spirit, she sets out to help them rekindle their magic...

Book Details:

Title: Princess Sophie and the Christmas Elixir
Author: Mike Martin

Publication Date: October 15, 2024
Pages: 24
Genre: Mezzo Publications

About the Book:

Princess Sophie and the Magic Elixir is the story of a young girl who loves Christmas. When she sees that the people of Melodica are losing their Christmas spirit, she sets out to help them rekindle their magic. At the end she finds that all we really need is to believe in the power of love.

My Review:

Princess Sophie and the Christmas Elixir is a fully illustrated children's book. This is a wonderful holiday story fit for everyone, children and adults alike. The illustrations are cute and vibrant. The message portrayed is one of love and rekindling the Christmas spirit of the residents of an entire town.

This is a quick read and perfect for a bedtime story. Of course, Princess Sophie and the Christmas Elixir can be read anytime - including outside the holiday season. While the setting is Christmastime, the message is about hope and love, and how one person can lift the spirits of many - a perfect message for anytime of the year.

Please understand that I read holiday themed books at all time so the year, whether they coincide with the actual holiday time period, or not. Sometimes it's not so much the holiday that captures my attention, it's the message, theme, or synopsis of the book. Uplifting stories should be read whenever the mood strikes, and not just during the holidays. Princess Sophie and the Christmas Elixir is a beautifully written children's story that shouldn't be stuffed on a shelf 11 months of the year. Sophie needs to be out delivering her message all year long.

#BookReview ~ Moonlit Thorns by P. Rayne ~ Dark Contemporary Romance #MidnightManor

About the Book:

No one knows what happens up at Midnight Manor.

The home of the Voss brothers sits like a sentinel looking down on our small town, remaining a mystery. The four brooding billionaires rarely leave the confines of the iron gates, fueling rumors that have existed for decades.

When my father dies, all the security I’ve known is ripped away, forcing me to come face to face with the eldest brother, Asher Voss. His outward beauty is just as I’d heard—it belies a predatory nature, irresistibly drawing me in.

A bargain is made, and I have no choice but to live in the shadowy confines of his gothic manor to save my family. As time passes, it becomes harder and harder to deny our attraction.

Asher Voss might be too old for me, and he’s definitely cursed by his own demons, but an inferno of passion between us threatens to either consume or destroy us both.

MOONLIT THORNS is a dark, contemporary romance, Beauty and the Beast retelling.

My Review:

Moonlit Thorns is a gritty, dark romance. A wonderful retelling of Beauty and Beast but spicier, this novel will pull you in and not let you go until it's over.

Asher is a dreamy hero with a horrific past. Annabelle just lost her father and is about to lose their family legacy. When she sought help from the very family that is threatening to take their familial home, she steps into Midnight Manor and her whole world changes.

This book has wonderful characters, a sexy plot, and wonderful world-building. The authors created emotionally-driven main characters. I loved this book and can't wait for the next one.

#BookReview ~ Jingles by D.F. Jones ~ Women's Short Stories/Women's Fiction ~ #HolidayRomance #Romance #Christmas #SantaClaus #Santa

With Christmas Eve fast approaching, Nick must convince Clara to trust in the magic they share before the magic fades forever—and with it, the spirit of Christmas itself.

Title: Jingles
Author: D.F. Jones

Publication Date: November 1, 2024
Pages: 96
Genre: Women's Short Stories/Women's Fiction

About Jingles:

Jingles by USA Today bestselling author D.F. Jones is a heartwarming tale set in the picturesque town of HollyHaven, where Christmas magic is more real than anyone could imagine. At the heart of this magic is Jingles, a beloved Christmas shop that has always been the town’s festive centerpiece. But this year, something is different—the magic is fading, and the very spirit of Christmas hangs in the balance.

Enter Nick, the reluctant heir to the Claus legacy, who’s been tasked with saving Christmas before it’s too late. While Nick knows the pressure is on, he isn’t expecting the key to saving the holiday to come in the form of Clara, a talented baker who runs the town’s cozy café, The Cinnamon Stick. Clara, still healing from past heartbreaks, has wrapped herself in the warmth of her bakery, keeping her heart and belief in magic safely guarded.

As Nick and Clara’s paths cross, sparks fly, and magical happenings begin to unfold around them. Nick sees something special in Clara—something that might just be the answer to restoring the holiday magic. But more than that, he feels a growing connection he can’t explain.

With Christmas Eve fast approaching, Nick must convince Clara to believe in the magic of the season and the love blossoming between them. Together, they must find a way to restore Christmas before it fades away forever.

Jingles is a feel-good, magical romance filled with the joy of the holiday season, perfect for anyone who loves a good dose of Christmas spirit, love, and second chances. It’s a gentle reminder that sometimes, the greatest magic of all is simply believing.

My Review:

Jingles is a wonderful holiday novella.

With Christmas magic slowly fading from the town of HollyHaven, Nick Claus is aware of his need to assume the mantle of Santa from his father. The prophecy governing Christmas magic doesn't just include the retirement of the current Claus and the taking of the helm by Nick. Nick also must find the perfect partner. When he does, the realization of who Nick is and what her role would be, is overwhelming for Clara. Nick has the task of convincing Clara that magic and love are real.

The author did a wonderful job putting her own spin on the tale of Santa Claus. I love the prophecy concept. It's a unique twist on the Santa Claus legend. The novella is original and heartwarming.  The setting is festive and the magic bleeds off the pages and right into the reader's heart.

Jingles pulls the reader in with holiday magic and a sweet romance. I was captivated by the entire story. Nick and Clara are cute, wonderfully written, delightful characters. The romance is quick, but in a town filled with magic, it's not hard to believe in Nick and Clara's connection.

I highly recommend this short story.

And that cover? Breathtaking. One of my favorites.

#BookReview ~ Dare by Chelle Bliss ~ #MenofInkedHeatwave

About the Book:

Austin Moore found his purpose in the military, but there was always something missing. He wanted what everyone in his family had...someone to call his own. But his life didn't make it easy to find a soul mate, someone to be his forever.

Sage Hill enlisted to follow in the footsteps of her father, but never wanted to be in his shadow. And when her friend ditches her at a dive bar, she catches the eye of a handsome stranger. But Sage doesn't have time for relationships, nor does she want the complication.

When Sage is stuck, Austin tries to be her saving grace and a challenge leads to a lip lock neither one of them can forget. She swore she'd never fall for a strong and bossy man like her father, but she soon learns there's more than meets the eye underneath that sexy exterior.

My Review:

Dare is book 14 in the Men of Inked: Heatwave series by Chelle Bliss. Dare is also the second book I’ve read in the series. As someone who doesn’t usually start a series in the middle, or skip around, I was pulled in by the description of the book and knew I had to read it despite how far in the series Dare falls. I was not disappointed nor was I lost. I might not know the backstory of the characters from previous books, but the author did an amazing job with a book that will be enjoyable for a long-time fan or a newly discovered one.

I enjoyed Sage and Austin’s story. Their childhoods are so different, yet they related to each other on other levels. Sage and Austin were magnets to one another. I was pulled into their story and captivated by their personalities, drama, romance, and complications. Their chemistry sizzles, the passion is raw, and emotions permeate the pages. I had a hard time putting the book down.

#BookReview ~ Wrath by Cala Riley ~ #MCRomance #CalaRiley #LotusMCSeries

 Wrath by Cala Riley

About the Book:

Wrath
All I have in life is my brothers and my club.
It's all I ever needed.
Until Tara.
Seeing her broken and bruised called to a part of me I thought was long dead.
She can't handle my brand of crazy though.
So I'll offer her the only thing I can.
My claim, but in name only.

Tara
Being a sweetbutt, I never let myself imagine finding my happy ever after within the walls of the Lotus MC.
It just wasn't done.
Until Wrath.
His claim was meant to save me, but it only left me feeling isolated.
He thinks I can't handle him, but he's wrong.
Underneath this damaged girl is a woman dying to burst free.
If only, I could break down his walls enough to explore it with him.

With danger lurking around every corner, will Wrath and Tara ever be able to overcome their insecurities and find solace within one another?

Check trigger warnings.

My Review:

Wrath is the excellent second book in the Lotus MC Series.

Wrath has never needed a steady woman in his life...until Tara. When she is attacked, Wrath claims her to protect and save her. Neither expected for their union to be the beginning of anything, let alone the breaking down of walls.

Wrath is a beautiful and gritty MC romance, filled with suspense, action, and realism. The authors created a novel with all the feels. I laughed and I cried. I worried and then felt immense relief. I was anxious and on the edge of my seat. The description of the book pulled me in but the character-driven plot, outstanding character development and world-building, and writing style kept me engaged. I couldn't put the book down.

For the record - I hate needles just as Tara does, but I have four tattoos. Medical needles and tattooing are 2 completely different animals. I could get tattooed everyday, but shots and getting blood drawn freak me out.

I can't wait for the next book about Colt.
